Vocabulary chapter 9

TermDefinition
Calorie Amount of energy needed to raise the temperature of one gram of water by one degree celsius:
Calorie Term used by scientist to measure the energy stored in foods; 1000 calories.
Glycolysis First step in releasing the energy of glucose in which a molecule of glucose is broken into two molecules of pyrovic acid.
Fermentation Process by which cells release energy and the absence of oxygen.
Anaerobic Process that does not require oxygen.
Aerobic Process that requires oxygen.
Krebs Cycles Second stage of cellular respiration, in which a pyrovic acid is broken down into carbon dioxide in series of energy-extracting reaction.
