Kidney Notes

StructureFunction
Renal Medulla collects urine from nephron
renal cortex where blood is sorted by nephron
renal pelvis collects pools of urine
ureter carries urine away from kidney to bladder
urethra carries urine from bladder to outside
bladder stores urine
glomerulus capillary bed under high pressure
bowman's capsule collects leaking blood that does not include proteins and blood cells
Proximal tubule returns bicarbonate, water, NaCl, nutrients, and K+ to the blood. Takes ammonia and H+ ions out of the blood
Loop of Henle descending loop returns water to blood, loop itself returns salt to blood, ascending loop also returns salt to blood
Distal tubule returns water, salt, and bicarbonate to the blood absorbs K+ and H+ ions from the blood into the filtrate
Collecting duct some NaCl, urea, and water are reabsorbed into blood.
