Cell Cycle
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Photosynthesis | The process by which plants use sunlight, carbon dioxide, and water to make glucose (food) |
| Cellular Respiration | The process by which cells use oxygen to produce energy from food |
| C6H12O6 | Chemical formula for glucose |
| Cell Cycle | The life cycle of a cell |
| Chromosomes | One of the structures in the nucleus that are made up of DNA and protein |
| Cancer | A tumor in which the cells begin dividing at an uncontrolled rate |
| Mitosis | A process of cell division that forms two new cells |
| Interphase | Before mitosis begins, chromosomes are copied |
| Prophase | Chromosomes condense from long strands into rodlike structures |
| Metaphase | Paired chromosomes align at the cell’s equator |
| Anaphase | The paired chromosomes separate and move to opposite sides of the cell |
| Telophase | A nuclear membrane forms around each set of chromosomes |
| Cytokinesis | The cell pinches in two |
| Centromere | Holds the copied chromosomes together |
| Spindle Fibers | Attaches to the chromosomes and pulls them apart |
| H2O | Chemical formula for water |
| O2 | Chemical formula for Oxygen |
| CO2 | Chemical formula for Carbondioxide |
| ATP | Energy molecule made during cellular respiration |
