Ch 4 Organelles
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Organelles | Tiny Organs inside cells |
| Cell Wall | Found only in plants. Outside the cell membrane; More rigid than the cell membrane |
| Mitochondria | Supplies cell with energy. It’s like a battery |
| Cell membrane | The outside of the cell that separates inside from outside |
| Ribosome | They build proteins by putting together amino acids |
| Endoplasmic Reticulum | The Conveyor Belt; Ribosomes put proteins here so that they can be taken to other parts of the cell |
| Vacuole | Storage container found in plants. Stores extra water and other stuff |
| Lyosomes | Digestive Packets. They travel around cell and digest dead cell parts and food particles |
| Golgi Complex | UPS Packaging Centers. Products from ER are sent here to be shipped outside the cell |
| Cytoskeleton | Gives the cell support and shape |
| Chloroplasts | Found only in plants. They collect the suns energy and make food (sugar) and oxygen |
| Cytoplasm | The jelly-like substance inside the cell |
| Semipermeable | Type of membrane that allows some substance in and keeps others out |
| Iodine is a smaller molecule. Starch is too big | Why was the iodine allowed to pass through the baggie but the starch wasn't |
| Chloroplasts, Cell Wall, Central Vacuole | Organelles only found in plants (3 of them) |
| Lysosome | Organelle found only in animal cells |
| Tissue | Two or more cells |
| Organ | Two or more tissues working together |
| Organ System | Two or more organs working together |
| Organism | All the organ systems working together |
| Prokaryote | A bacterial cell is a |
| Eukaryote | An animal and plant cell are a |
| Nucleus | Where is the DNA located in a Eukaryotic cell? |
| Cytoplasm | Where is the DNA located in a Prokaryotic cell? |
