Gene a unit of information - piece of DNA chromosome - each individual typically has two genes for each trait
Locus The exact position a gene is found on a chromosome
Alleles Different forms of the same gene
Homozygous Two Identical Alleles in a given Gene Pair
Heterozygous Two Different Alleles in a given gene pair
Dominant Allele It is expressed in a heterozygous individual - Represented by a capital letter
Recessive Allele It's not expressed or is masked in a heterozygous individual - Represented with a lowercase letter
Genotype The actual genetic makeup that an individual has for a trait
Homozygous dominant two dominant alleles in a given gene pair -AA
Homozygous recessive two recessive alleles in a given gene pair - aa
Heterozygous two different alleles (one dominant and one recessive) in a given gene pair - Aa
Phenotype The actual physical or physiological expression of a gene pair
P Generation Parental Generation
F1 generation First filial generation - Offsprings from parents
F2 generation second filial generation - offspring from f1 parents
Monohybrid cross A genetic cross involving the inheritance of one trait
Dihybrid cross A genetic cross involving the inheritance of two traits simultaneously
Autosomal inheritance Traits carried on autosomes
Sex-linked inheritance Traits carried on sex chromosomes
