Literature/Composition Key Words

TermDefinition
theme the main message that an author wants to communicate to a reader.
symbolism the literary technique of using something to stand for or represent another idea; for example a dove frequently symbolizes peace.
plot what happens in a story; the sequence of events.
folktale a story that is usually passed orally from one generation to the next.
symbol something that stands for something else in literature; for example, a dove may symbolize peace.
