| Diaphragm | controls the amount of light that enters a microscope. |
| coarse adjustment knob | Fine tuning in a microscope. Use with high or medium power objectives. |
| Body tube | Holds eyepiece lens at top and objective lens at bottom |
| Stage clip | Holds slide to the stage |
| Arm | Holds the tube and stage, and attaches them to the base |
| Ocular | The eyepiece |
| Cell Membrane | - Thin outer covering that regulates materials coming into the cell and waste materials going out -Holds contents of the cell in place -selectively permeable |
| Cell wall | -Only in plants - surrounds the cell membrane -permeable -helps maintain the shape of the cell |
| Centrioles | - Protein fibers that aid in cell division |
| chloroplast | -only in plants -the food factories in a plant cells -contains chlorophyll and carries out photosynthesis |
| chromatin | -loosely coiled DNA that is found in the nucleus -genetic information |
| Chromosomes | -tightly coiled DNA that is found in the nucleus - genetic information |
| cilia | Tiny hairs that work together to move a cell |
| Flagellum | Whip-like tail that moves the cell (not found in all animal cells and not found in plant cells) |
