compound light microscopes these types of microscopes allow light to pass through the specimen and use two lenses to form an image
electron microscopes these types of microscoeps use beams of electrons to produce images
transmission electron microscopes also known as TEMs, these electron microscopes shine a beam of electrons through a thin specimen
scanning electron microscopes also known as SEMs, these electron microscopes scan a narrow beam of electrons back and forth across the surface of a specimen
