| Term | Definition |

| Biology | Bio-life logy-study of study of living things. |
| Organism | The scientific word for living things. For example, a bald eagle. |
| Habitat | An environment that provides the things a specific organism needs to live,grow,and reproduce. For example, a forest habitat. |
| Biotic Factor | The parts of a habitat that are living, or once living, and interact with an organism. For example, flowers. |
| Abiotic Factor | The non-living parts of an organism's habitat. For example, sunlight. |
| Species | A group of organism's that can mate with each other and produce offspring that can also mate and reproduce. For example, prairie dogs. |
| Population | The members of one species living in a particular area. For example, prairie dog town. |
| Communities | The different populations that live together in an area. For example, the living things that interact with prairie dogs. |
| Ecosystem | The community of organism's that live in a particular area, along with their non-living environment. For example, deserts,oceans,ponds,and forests. |
| Ecology | The study of how organism's interact with each other and their evironment. |
| Birth Rate | The number of births per 1,000 individuals for a given time period. |
| Death Rate | The number of deaths per 1,000 indivduals for a given time period. |
| Immigration | Moving into a population. For example, a deer moving it's population. |
| Emigration | Leaving a population. For example, a fox leaving it's population. |
| Population Density | The number of individuals in an area of a specific size. For example, 20 butterflies in a garden measuring 10 square meters. |
| Limiting Factor | An environmental factor that causes a population to stop growing or decrease in size. For example, like weather conditions in a population. |
| Carrying Capacity | The largest population that a particular environment can support. For example, the carrying capacity of a certain giraffe area is ten giraffes. |
