| germination | events during which a plant will begin growing from a seed |
| sepal | a leaflike structure that protects a developing flower bud |
| petal | colorful, leaflike parts of a flower |
| photosynthesis | the process by which plants use light energy to make sugar from carbon dioxide and water |
| chlorophyll | a green light-trapping pigment in plants that is important in photosynthesis |
