Types of Organic Molecules
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| Define Carbohydrates. | they are made of carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen. (Iodine solution is used to test carbs) |
| What are 2 types of carbohydrates ? | Monosaccharides and Polysaccharides |
| Define Monosaccharides. | they are simple sugars. (Ex.Glucose) |
| Define Polysaccharides. | they are complex sugars. (Ex. Glycogen, Starch, Cellulose) |
| Define Lipids. | they contain carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen. (To test lipids is using a brown paper bag) ((positive=translucent, negative=nothing)) |
| More about lipids... | they are commonly called fats & oils, their subunits are 1 glycerol and 3 fatty acid's. |
| Define Proteins. | they contain carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, and nitrogen. (Biuret's solution is use to test proteins) |
| More about Proteins... | subunits are amino acids, they can work as enzymes.(Ex. insulin, enzymes, hemoglobin) |
| What are enzymes ? | is a type of protein that is used to speed up chemical reactions. |
| Define Nucleic Acids. | is a complex molecule that stores and transmits cellular info. |
| More about Nucleic Acids... | subunits are nucleotides. (Ex. DNA, RNA) |
