vocabulary

QuestionAnswer
Taxonomy Scientists classify and assign each organism a universally accepted name.
Binomial Nomenclature each species is assigned a two-part scientific name.
Genus a group of closely related species.
Taxon A taxonomic category.
Family Is groups of large category.
Order Is a broad taxonomic category composed of similar families.
Class The next larger category composed of similar orders.
Phylum made up by several different classes.
Kingdom the largest and most inclusive of Linnaeus's taxonomic categories.
Domain a more inclusive category than any other. Larger than the kingdom.
Bacteria are unicellular and prokaryotic.
Eubacteria These bacteria are ecologically diverse.
Archaea live in some of the most extreme environments you can imagine.
Archaebacteria is the kingdom of domain archaea.
Eukarya consists of all organisms that have a nucleus.
Protista is composed of eukaryotic organisms that cannot be classified as animals, plants, or fungi.
Plantae are multicellular organisms that are photosynthetic autotrophs.
Animalia are multicellular and heterotrophic.
