Lysosome Digests chemicals/proteins and breaks down and disposes of waste
Cell wall Outer rim that provides structure, support, and protection for the (plant)cell
Chloroplasts Contains chlorophyll which is responsible for photosynthesis (only in plant cells)
Chromosomes Groups of genes that contain the codes for directing the cell's activities
Cytoplasm The jelly-like substance that fills the cell and holds the organelles together
Endoplasmic Reticulum Transports chemicals/proteins around and outside the cell
Golgi Bodies Modifies,sorts,and packages chemicals/proteins
Mitochondria Powerhouse of the cell, produces energy (ATP) by breaking down sugars
Nuclear membrane Thin layer surrounding the nucleus that protects it

Monomer A molecule that may react chemically to another molecule of the same type to form a larger molecule
Polymer A compound made up of several repeating units (monomers)
Carbohydrates Any of the group of organic compounds consisting of carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen
Lipids A fatty or waxy organic compound responsible for energy storage
Proteins An organic compound containing nitrogen as well as elements found in carbohydrates and lipids
Nucleic Acids An organic substance found in the nucleus that is responsible for genetic information
