| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| Cell Membrane | Thin structure that surrounds the cytoplasm and nucleus of plant and animal cells |
| Cell Wall | The stiff structure outside the cell membrane in a plant; provides support |
| Chloroplasts | An organelle located in the cytoplasm in plant cells that contain chlorophyll |
| Chromosomes | Located in the nucleus, they contain the code that controls the cell and transmit heredity characteristics |
| Cytoplasm | A jelly-like substance filling the cell that provides energy in the cell |
| Endoplasmic Reticulum | An organelle found throughout the cytoplasm that transports material through the cell |
| Golgi Bodies | An organelle that manufactures and moves material in the cytoplasm of a cell |
| Mitochondria | An organelle in large numbers in most cells, in which the biochemical processes of respiration and energy production occur |
| Nuclear Membrane | The double layer membrane which surrounds the nucleus |
| Nucleus | The control center for most of a cell's activities |
| Ribosomes | An organelle located on the endoplasmic reticulum that provides protein for the cells |
| Vacuole | An organelle located in the cytoplasm that stores water, food, and wastes in a cell that helps get rid of waste |
| Prokaryote | A single-celled organism that doesn't have a nucleus with a membrane |
| Eukaryote | An organism consisting of multiple cells that contain a nucleus with |
| Mitosis | A type of cell that divides into two cells each the same as the parent nucleus, resulting in ordinary tissue growth |
| Meiosis | A type of cell that divides into two cells each with half the chromosome number of the parent cell |
| Monomer | A simple molecule that can join together to from a macro-molecule (polymer) |
| Polymer | A substance that is built up of a number of similar molecular units that are bounded together. Polymers can be either a natural or synthetic compound |
| Carbohydrates | Any of the group of organic compounds consisting of carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen |
| Lipids | Any of a class of organic compounds that are fatty acids |
| Proteins | Any of a class of nitrogenous organic compounds that consist of large molecules composed of one or more long chains of amino acids |
| Nucleic Acids | A complex organic substance inside living cells that carry genetic information directing all cellular functions |
