Gene Vocabulary
| Term | Definition |

| Gene | A segment of DNA that codes a specific protein. |
| Chromosome | Composed of genes; How genes are crossed over from parent to offspring. |
| Allele | The two forms of a gene. |
| Diploid | Cells with 2 copies of each chromosome. |
| Haploid | Cells with only 1 copy of each chromosome. |
| Somatic cell | Regular body cell of an organism, diploid. |
| Gamete | Sex cell of an organism, 1 copy of allele, haploid. |
| Homologous Chromosomes | 2 Copies of each chromosome in a diploid cell. |
| Dominant | "Stronger" Form of allele, always expressed. |
| Recessive | "Weaker" Form of allele, hidden by dominant allele. |
| Homozygous | Allele combination where both alleles are dominant, or both recessive. |
| Heterozygous | Allele combination where one of each type of allele is present. |
| Phenotype | physical appearance of an organism (Tall, Short). |
| Genotype | The actual genetic makeup of an organism |
| Cross | Purposeful reproduction of 2 organisms. |
| Probality | Likely hood of producing offspring. |
