TermDefinition
Taxonomy Scientists classify organisms and assign each organism a universally accepted name
Binomial nomenclature Each species is assigned a two part scientific name
Genus A group of closely related species
Taxon A group or level of organization
Order Is a broad taxonomic category composed of similar familys
Class The next larger category is the class composed of similar orders
Phylum Several different classes make up phylum
Kingdon The kingdom is the largest taxonomic category
Domain Is more inclusive category than any other and is larger than a kingdom
Bacteria Member of the domain
Eubacteria The domain bacteria corresponds to the kingdom eubacteria
Archaea Live in some of the most extreme environments you can imagine corresponds to archaebacteria
Protista The kingdom protista is a compound of eukaryotic organisms that cannot be classified as animals plants or fungi
Fungi Members of the fungi kingdom, Fungi are heterotrophs
Plantae Members of the kingdom plantae are multicellular organisms
Animalia Members of the kingdom animalia are multicellular and heterotrophs
