nucleus controls all activity. the "brain" of the cell
chromosomes store directions for all cellular activities
cytoplasm gel-like substance between the nucleus and cell membrane
vacule sack-like structures that store water
mitochondria give energy to the cell. "power house"
cell membrane gives the cell shape and controls what goes in and out of the cell
nuclear membrane controls what goes in and out of the nucleus
cell wall stiff layer that surrounds the cell membrane and gives it support
chloroplast trap the energy of light and makes food
chlorophyll absorbs light and gives many plants their green color
