Heart The muscular organ that pumps blood through the body
Veins A blood vessel that carries blood back to the heart. Has oxygen poor blood
Capillaries A tiny blood vessel that allows gas exchanges between body cells and blood
Right Atrium Storage chamber in heart that receives blood coming back from body. Has oxygen poor blood
Left Atrium Storage chamber in heart that receives blood coming back from the lungs. Has oxygen rich blood
Right Ventricle Thick muscular chamber that contracts and sends oxygen poor blood to the lungs
Left Ventricle Thick muscular chamber the contracts and sends oxygen rich blood to the body
Valve Flap like structures in heart that prevents blood from going backward
Pulse The blood hitting the artery wall as the heart contracts and we can feel it
Blood Pressure The amount of force against the blood vessel walls
Oxygen Rich Blood that has fresh oxygen in it
Oxygen Poor Blood that does not have oxygen in it but has more carbon dioxide in it.
Atherosclerosis Build up of plaque and fatty deposits that cause blockages in the blood vessels
Stroke When a small blood vessel in the brain gets clogged and bursts and oxygen cannot get to brain cells
Has "A" antigens on it but has "B" antibodies Type A blood
Has "B" antigens on it but has "A" antibodies Type B blood
Has "AB" antigens on it but has no antibodies Type AB
Has no antigens on it but has "AB" antibodies Type O
Is the known as the universal donor Type O
Is known as the universal receiver Type AB
Arteries A blood vessel that carries oxygen rich blood away from the heart.
