Trimester a three month period
Conception the union of a sperm and a egg cell
zygote single cell organism that is formed when the seperate nuclei of sperm and egg combine into one nucleus
prenatal development all the developmentthat occurs between conception and birth
blastocyst a hollow ball of cells that implants itself in the uterus name for a developing baby from after the zygote stage until the embryo stage
placenta a special organ formed during pregnancy that functions as the interchange between the developing baby and its mother
umbilical cord a flexiable cord that contains blood vessles and connetcs the placenta to the developing baby
amniotic fluid fluid inside theh amniochorionic membrane that regulates the babys temperture , cushions the baby against injury and allows the baby to move around easily
embryo name for developing baby from the second to the eighth weeks of pregnancy
fetus the name of a developing baby from ninth week fo preganancy until birth
miscarriage the natrual ending of a pregnancy before the fifth month spontaneous abortion
stillbirth the natrual ending of pregnancy after fifth month spantaneous abortion
pregnancy-induced hypertension a complication of pregnancy that affects a womans kidneys heart or blood circulation
rubella a virus that can complicate pregnancy causing misscarriage stillbirth or congenital disorder
Rh factor disorder a disorder that can return complicate preganancy
STDs sexual transmitted diseses
AIDs a disease that breaks down the immune system leaving th ebody vulnerable to disease that a healkty body could easily resist
HIV a virus that causes AIDS
