Animal Cells
Animal Cell structure and function
| Structure | Function |
|---|---|
| Vacuole | stores food, water, wastes, and other materials |
| Golgi Body | Receives material from the endoplasmic reticulum and sends them to other parts of the cell and release materials outside the cell. |
| Cytoplasm | gel-like fluid in which many different organelles are found |
| Mitochondria | produces the cell energy |
| Endoplasmic Reticulum | Carries material from one part of the cell to another |
| cell membrane | forms a barrier between the cytoplasm and the environment outside the cell. |
| Lysosomes | chemicals that break down food particles and worn-out cell parts |
| Nucleus | directs all activities, including reproduction |
| Ribosomes | May be attached to the outer surfaces of the endoplasmic reticulum or may float freely in the cytoplasm. These small structures function as factories to produce proteins. |
