| 111. ecosystem | A complex set of relationships and interactions among organisms and their environment. |
| 112. biotic factor | part of an ecosystem that that is or was once living, or is part of a living thing |
| 113. abiotic factor | part of an ecosystem that is non-living. Examples: Air, water, minerals, light, temperature, pressure |
| 114. trophic level | describes the position of an organism in a food chain or web and has to do with how the organism gets its energy. Examples are producer, consumer (primary or secondary), decomposer, and scavenger |
| 115. decomposer | an organism that gets its energy by breaking down dead organisms. Examples: bacteria & fungi |
| 116. herbivore | an organism that gets its energy & nutrients by consuming only plants |
| 117. carnivore | an organism that gets its energy & nutrients by consuming only animals |
| 118. omnivore | an organism that gets its energy & nutrients by consuming plants, animals, and others |
| 119. energy pyramid | A model for how energy is distributed among the trophic levels of a food web within an ecosystem. |
| 120. terrestrial | on land (not aquatic/in water) |
