Biology - Cell Cycle
The Cell Cycle and all it's details
| CELL CYCLE | DESCRIPTIONS & DEFINITIONS |
|---|---|
| Mitosis Definition | The process in which 2 identical cells are made from 1 for the purpose of growth and replacement. |
| THE STEPS OF MITOSIS | 1. DNA replicates 2. Prophase 3. Metaphase 4. Anaphase 5. Telophase 6. Cell plate forms in plant cells that will eventually form cell wall. |
| INTERPHASE | The resting phase between successive mitotic divisions of a cell, or between the first and second divisions of meiosis. |
| PROPHASE | The first stage of cell division, before metaphase, during which the chromosomes become visible as paired chromatids and the nuclear envelope disappears. The first prophase of meiosis includes the reduction division |
| METIPHASE | The second stage of cell division during which the chromosomes become attached to the spindle fibers. |
| ANIPHASE | The stage of meiotic or mitotic cell division in which the chromosomes move away from one another to opposite poles of the spindle. |
| TELLIPHASE | The final phase of cell division, between anaphase and interphase, in which the chromatids or chromosomes move to opposite ends of the cell and two nuclei are formed |
| TYPES OF REPRODUCTION | Asexual - Sexual - Meiosis |
| ASEXUAL REPRODUCTION | reproduction without the fusion of gametes. |
| SEXUAL REPRODUCTION | The production of new living organisms by combining genetic information from two individuals of different types (sexes). |
| MEIOSIS | A type of cell division that results in two daughter cells each with half the chromosome number of the parent cell. |
| MITOSIS vs MEIOSIS (differences) | MI produces 2 cells, where as ME produces 4.MI diploid cells for diploid cells, where as ME diploid cells produce haploid cells. MI chromosome # remains the same, where as ME. chromosome # is halved. MI cells divide once, where as ME. cells divide twice. |
| MITOSIS vs MEIOSIS (same) | Chromosome replication occurs prior to |
