Parts of a Cell(Bio)
The functions of the organelles in a cell
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Cell Wall | shapes and supports a plant cell |
| Cell Membrane | controls what enters and exits a cell |
| Cytoplasm | jelly-like substance that contains all the organelles |
| Vacuole | a sac that stores water and dissolves minerals in water |
| Mitochondria | powerhouse of the cell |
| Nucleus | contains the DNA |
| Peroxisomes | breaks down fatty acid molecules |
| Lysosomes | break down lipids, carbohydrates, and proteins into small molecules that can be used by the rest of the cell |
| Endoplasmic Reticulum | where lipid components of the cell membrane are assembled, along with proteins and other materials that are exported from the cell |
| Golgi Complex | modifies, sorts, and packages proteins and other materials from the ER for storage in the cell or release outside the cell |
| Ribosomes | responsible for producing and assembling the proteins of the cell |
| Centrioles | to produce the cell's cytoskeleton which is made up of microtubules and microfilaments that allow the movement for all kinds of things in the cell |
| Chloroplast | where food for plant cells is made |
| Cilia | used in movement of cells(look like small hairs) |
| Flagella | used in movement of cells(look like longer tails) |
