taxonomy the science of describing, naming, and classifying organisms
Hierarchical classification Domain, Kingdom, Phylum, Class, Order, Family, Genus, Species. this is a logical system that show relationships in how organisms are structured
Phylogeny the evolutionary history of species. They study visible similarities, fossil records, patterns of embryonic development, and genetics ( in the nucleus, in mitochondrial DNA, and in ribosomal RNA.
binomial nomenclature The scientific naming of organisms
subspecies A taxonomic category that ranks below species, usually a fairly permanent geographically isolated race.
