Introduction to Ecosystems

QuestionAnswer
What is an ecosystem? Community of organisms interacting with each other and the environment around them.
What are producers? Carohydrate producing organisms that turn sunlight into energy/
What is an autotroph? Another name for a producer auto=self, troph=feeding
What is a carbohydrate? A chemical molecule that stores energy. The molecule can be broken down by the body- allowing the cells of the body to use the energy.
What is a consumer? Any organism that consumes other organisms to obtain carbohydrates (energy)
What is a heterotroph? Another name for consumer. Hetero=different, troph=feeding
What is meant by "stable ecosystem?" One that changes very little over time
What makes an ecosystem "stable?" Diversity. The more diverse it is, the more stable it is.
