| purine | nitrogenous bases that have a double ring of carbon and nitrogen atoms |
| pyrimidine | nitrogenous bases that have a single ring of carbon and nitrogen atoms |
| base-pairing rules | ruel that in DNA, cytosine on one strand pairs with guanine on the oppisite strand and adenine pairs with thymine |
| complemetary base pair | pairs of bases, contain one double ring purine and one single ring pyrimidine |
| base sequence | the order of nitrogenous bases on a chain of DNA |
