Bacteria Single-celled (unicellular) prokaryotic cells that are very small and very ancient
Binary Fission A form of asexual reproduction where the cell doubles in size, replicates its DNA, and divides in half. Produces 2 identical "daughter" cells.
Disinfectant Chemical used to clean surfaces that can destroy bacteria or viruses.
Incubator Equipment that maintains temperature at a constant level.
Pasteurize Heating food at a very high temperature to kill most of the bacteria.
Antibiotic Medication that can prevent or destroy bacterial growth. Only for bacterial infections.
Coccus Shape of bacteria-Round, spheres
Bacillus Shape of bacteria-Rods
Spirillum Shape of bacteria-Spiral or spring-like
