Pharynx releases enzymes that begin the digestion of prey.
Flame Cell organ of excretion in flatworms.
Ganglion a group of nerve cell bodies that coordinates incoming and outgoing nerve signals.
Regeneration a process in which body parts that are missing due to damage or predation can be regrown.
Scolex a knob-shaped structure with hooks and suckers that attach to the intestinal lining of a host such as cow or a human.
Proglottid behind the scolex of the worm, contains muscles,nerves,flame cells, and male and female reproductive organs.
Hydrostatic Skeleton fluid within a closed space that provides rigid support for muscles to work against.
Trichinosis a disease; it can be contacted by eating raw or undercooked pork and pork products, or wild game infected with the larvae of Trichinella.
Mantle a membrane that surrounds the internal organs of the mollusks.
Radula a tongue-like organ with rows of teeth.
Gill respiratory structures; are parts of the mantle that consist of a system of filamentous projections like the fringes of a blanket.
Open Circulatory System the blood is pumped out of vessels into open spaces surrounding the body organs.
Closed Circulatory System blood is confined to vessels as it moves through the body.
Nephridium mollusks get rid of metabolic wastes from cellular processes through structures.
Siphon A pipe or tube used to convey liquid upward from a container and then down to a lower level by gravity, the liquid being made to enter the pipe by atmospheric pressure
Crop Food and soil taken in by the mouth pass though the pharynx into the crop, where they are stored until they pass to the gizzard
Gizzard a muscular sac containing hard particles that help grind soil and food before they pass into the intestine.
Seta are tiny bristles that push into the soil and anchor the worm during the movement.
Clitellum a thickened band of segments.
