QuestionAnswer
Whi waas the man that discovered genetics and how it worked ? Gergor Mendel
How did he expirment genetics ? with a pea expirment
What where the P plants in his expirment ? The purebreed the ones who have been through self polination
What where the F1 plants ? The first result of cross breeding the purebreed
What were the F2 plants ? the result of the crossbredding of the F1 plants
What where the seven traits mendel used for the peas / Pea color, pea shape, pod shape, pod color, plant height ,flower coloe, and flower position
What are Mendels first law or the laws of segregation ? 1. Organisms in heriit two copies of each gene one from each parent 2.Organisms only donate one gene in their gametes thus two copies of genes seprate
How do you find the genotype ? Its how many dominant crosses occurs like if the square reads AA Aa Aa aa its 1:2:1
How do you find the pheno type? Its how many dominat to recessive so if its AA Aa Aa aa the ratio is 3:1
What is the law of independent assorment ? That allel pairs seprate independtly during gamet formation aka meiosis
How can a disorder be caused by a recesive alle? When thw two copies of the recessive chromosome are present.
what is carrier ? When the person has it in the recesive allel not in the dominant
what are sex-linked genes ? genes found on the sex chromosome
in sex linked genes a female can pass what chromosome ? Only an x
In sex-linked genes a male can pass on what chromosome ? X and Y
which sex chromosome has a more affect on the offspring ? X y assumes the development of the male
Males only have one copy of each allel which means what ? Even if the disorder was recessive it would have no allel to cover it making which ever disorder to show
What is X chromosome inactivation ? when one of the two x chromosome in a femal is turned off making the female show the female gene or male
What is incomplete dominace ? A heterozygous phenotype is somewhere between the two homozygous phenotype meaning the allel isnt dominant or recessive
What is an example of incomplete dominace ? When a homozygous red flower is bred with a white homozygous flower making a pink one
What is codominance ? When both allels are expressed niether are dominant or recessive
Whzt is an example of codaminace ? When breeding a homozygous red flower with a white homozygous flower making a flower with some red and white areas
What ar polygenic traits ? traits produced by two or more genes
What are example of polygenic traits ? skin color, eye color
Who always carry the disorder for sex linked genes ? The female on one of the x chromosome
