Mitosis & Meiosis I

QuestionAnswer
What is mitosis? Part of a euaryotic cell division during which the cell nucleus divides
How stages are in mitosis? 4 -Prophase -Metapase -Anaphase -Telophase
What is prophase? Prophase is where the nuclear envolope of the cell has ditieriorated, at chormosomes have become visable, and the spindle apparatua has become visable
What is telophase? The chromosomes cluster together, and a nuclear envolope re-appears around them. The spindle breaks apart, and a nucleolous becomes visable in each nucleus
What is interphase? Cell grows and replicaes DNA & centrioles
What is metaphase? Chromosomes line up across the middle of the cell. Each chromosome is attached to a spindle fiber through it's centromere
What is anaphase? Sister chromosomes sperate into individual chromosomes and seperate
What is cytokinesis? In a animal cell, after telophase the cell would pinch into two daughter cells, and in a plant cell, a cell plate is formed creating two new daughter cells
What is meiosis? Process in which number of chromosomes per cell is cut in half, through the seperation of homologous chromosomes in a diploid cell
What are the stages of meiosis? Meiosis I & meiosis II
What is meiosis I? A series of events that result in the production of two diploid cells
What is the process of meiosis I? -Prophase I -Metephase I -Anaphase I -Telophase I & Cyotokinesis
What is prophase I During prophase I, each replicated chromosome pairs with it's homologous match. Which forms a tetrad. Also, tetrads cross-over
What is anaphase I During anaphase I, spindle fibers pull each pair toword opposite poles
What is telophase I & Cytokinesis? A nuclear membrane forms around the chromosomes again, and then two diploid cells are created
What is metaphase I? During metaphase, the tetrads line up across the center of the cell
What is a tetrad? A structure that contains four cromatids
What is crossing-over? Tetrads exchange portions of there cromatids
What is a diploid cell? Cell with two sets of homologous DNA
What is a haploid cell? Cell with four sets of homologous DNA
What is meiosis II? Second meiotic division, d=creating four haploid cells
Prophase II Each cells DNA becomes visable
Metaphase II Each cells DNA lines up across the center of the cell
Anaphase II Homologous pairs seperate at centromeres and are pulled to opposite poles
Telophase II & Cytokinesis Nucleus envolope re-appears and four haploid cells are created
What is a gamete? A gamete is a haploid cell, also known as a sperm or egg/sex cell

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
