Astrocytes CNS, really important part of system, maintains blood drain barrier, holds things together, critical during brain development
Blood drain barrier filters out bad things in blood so they don't get into brain
Microglia CNS, like white blood cells (macrophages), phagocytic (eats stuff), increased number of these during infection
Ependymal Cells CNS, epithelial, lines ventricles and central canal, secretes and circulates cerebrospinal fluid (CSF)
Oligodendrocytes CNS, big branching cells, "arms" wrap around axons, produce myelin in membrane
Schwann Cells PNS, holds axons in slightly different way than oligodendrocytes, may wrap around some axons, produce myelin, help peripheral nerves regenerate if damaged
Myelin Sheath insulating outer layer of most axons outside brain and spinal cord which increases rate of conduction of a nerve impulse and helps it repair
