Plants @ Arissa
This is my stack of key terms for revising the Biology 'Plants' topic
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| What is photosynthesis | The process by which plants make food ~ carbon dioxide + water (with sunlight) = glucose + oxygen |
| Factors that affect photosynthesis | Temperature, light intensity, CO2 levels |
| Why do plants have stomata? | To obtain CO2 from the atmosphere and release oxygen during photosynthesis |
| What controls the size of the stomata? | Guard cells |
| What are the uses of the xylem & phloem? | Xylem: Transports water & mineral ions from the roots up to the leaves Phloem: Carries dissolved sugars from the leaves to the rest of the plant (translocation) |
| What are plants sensitive to and what types of tropism are involved? | Light (phototropism), water (hydrotropism) and gravity (geotropism) |
| What is auxin? | Its a plant hormone that controls phototropism and geotropism. |
| What sugars do plants produce in photosynthesis and what are these sugars stored as? | Glucose and then it's stored as starch. |
