photoperiodism flowering response of a plant based on the number of hours of darkness it is exposed to.
short-day plant plant that flowers in the winter, spring, or fall, when the number of hours of darkness is greater than the number of hours of light.
long-day plant plnat that flowers in the summer, when there are fewer hours of darkness than the plant's critical period.
intermediate-day plant plant that flowers as long as the number of hours of darkness is neither too great nor too few.
day-neutral plant plant flowers over a wide range in the nubmer of hours of darkness.
