QuestionAnswer
What is a protaryotic cell? A cell that does not enclose DNA in the nucleus
What is a example of a prokaryotic cell? Bacteria
What is a Eukaryotic cell? A cell that encloses the DNA in the nucleus
What is a example of a Eukaryotic cell? Protists, plant and animal, & fungi
What are the properties of a prokaryotic cell? They are generally smaller and simpler than eukaryotic cells.
What are the properties of a eukaryotic cell? Large and complex than prokaryotic cells.
What is cytoplasm? Everything inside the cell except the nucleus(Eukaryotic) Everything inside the cell(Prokaryotic)
What is the cytoskeleton? Network of protein filaments in a eukaryotic cell that fices the cell its shape and internal organization and is involved in movement.
What is the centriole? Organelle in a eukaryotic cell (Animal) that helps to organize cell division
What is a cell? Basic unit of all life
What is the cell membrane? Thin, flexible barriar that surrounds all cells; regulates what renters and leaves.
What is the cell wall? Strong, suporting layer around the cell membrane (Plant)
What is the chloroplast? Organelle found in cells of plants that captures the energy from sunlight and converts it into chemical energy
What is the Endoplasmic Reticulum? Internal membrane system found in eukaryotic cells; place where lipid componets of the cell membrane are assembled.
What is the golgi apparatus? Organelle in cells that midifies, sorts, and packages proteins and other materials from the ER for storage in the cell or release outside the cell
What is a lysosome? Organelle that breaks down lipids, carbobydrates, and proteins into small molecules that can be used by th rest of the cell.
What is the mitochondria? Organelle that converts the chemiclal energy stored in food to compounds that are more conveinient for the cell to use.
What is the vacuole? Organelle that stores materials such as water, salts, proteins, and charbohydrates.
What is selectively permeable? Membranes that allow some substances to pass through while others cannot
What is the lipid bilayer? Flexible double layerd sheet that makes up the cell membrane and forms a barrier between the cell and it;s surroundings
What does the cell membrane do? it regulates what enters and leaves the cell, it's a source of protection and support also
What is a lipid? It's a source of energy, biological membrane and water-proof covering, insulation and cusioning, and steriods & hormones.
What makes up a lipid? Glycerol head: Hydrophilic Fatty acid tail: hydrophobic

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
