Cell Differentiation
Stem Cells and Cell Differentiation.
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| What are Stem Cells? | Stem cells are undifferentiated cells that are capable of producing many different types of cells (Totipotency and Pluripotency), or different types of the same class of cell (Multipotency). |
| Explain Totipotency: | Totipotency is the ability of Embryonic Stem Cells to differentiate into ANY type of cell of that organism, including the placenta (Over 200 types of cell in Humans). |
| Explain Pluripotency: | The ability of Embryonic Stem cells to differentiate into almost all cell types, some ability to differentiate has been lost as they cannot become placenta. |
| Explain Multipotency: | The ability of Adult Stem cells to divide and become different types of cell of a specific type, such as Blood Stem Cells can become Red, white or Platelet cells. |
| Regulator Gene: | A gene which produces a protein designed to block an Operator gene to prevent the production of a specific protein unless in the presence of a certain substrate. |
| Operator Gene: |
