| rain shadow effect | A rain shadow is an area of land that is shadowed from receiving moisture. Such an area will not be totally shadowed from all precipitation, but the total amount will be reduced because nearby mountains block moisture-bearing wind from reaching this area. |
| biomes | made of many different types of ecosystems; they are very large terrestrial ecosystems that contain specific kinds of plants and animals; they are influenced by climate and altitude |
