Unit 3 Vocab Words

Vocabulary for energy system.

Producers Organisms who can synthesize the entirety of their biomass solely from primary energy and primary nutrients extracted from the environment. (Level 1)
Primary Consumers Organisms that consume primary producers. (Level 2)
Secondary Consumers Organisms that consume primary consumers. (Level 3)
Tertiary Consumers Animals that feed on other animals. (Level 4)
Decomposers Special group of organisms that are capable of breaking down dead or dying tissue of other species.
Consumers An organism that generally obtains food by feeding on other organisms or organic matter due to lack of the ability to manufacture own food from inorganic sources.
Herbivores Organisms that feed on plants.
