Prokaryotic Cell Structure
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| Prokaryote | Type of cell lacking membrane bound nucleus or organelles |
| Gram Positive | Group of bacteria that have cell wall, less complex and has more peptidoglycan. Less toxic |
| Gram Negative | More complex cell walls, less peptidoglycan. More toxic |
| Peptidoglycan | Type of polymer in bacterial cell walls consisting of sugars cross-linked by short polypeptides |
| Penicillin | Antibiotics used in the treatments of bacterial infections usually Gram Positive |
| Periplasmic Space | Space bordered by 2 selectively permeable membranes (inner and outer membranes of gram negative) |
| Outer Membrane | Found in Gram Negative, includes Lypopolysaccharide |
| Teichoic Acid | Found within cell walls of Gram Positive bacteria |
| Flagella | Cellular appendage for locomotion |
| Flagellin | Protein arranged in a cylinder to form filament in bacterial flagellum |
