What is ecology? The science of how living and non-living things interact in an ecosystem.
What is an abiotic factor? a non-living part of an ecosystem
What are biotic factors? living parts of an ecosystem
What is a landfill? A place to put garbage.
What is an organism? A single living thing.
What is the biosphere? All the biomes of earth together, where all living things live.
What is population? The number of one species in an ecosystem.
What is an ecosystem? A system of living things that interact with one another and non-living things.
What is a community? All the populations of organisms living together in one place.
What is a biome? A collection of related ecosystems.
What are adaptations? special structures and behaviours that help organisms succeed
What does decompose mean? to break down matter
What is a decomposer? Organisms that break down matter.
What is recycling? The break-down of complex matter into usable nutrients.
What is matter? It takes up space and everything is made of it.
What is the matter cycle? The use and reuse of matter on earth.
What is photosynthesis? Plants use this process to make energy / sugar from sunlight.
What is chlorophyll? Plants need this green substance to turn sunlight into energy.
What are producers? Organisms that make their own energy.
What are consumers? Organisms that cannot make their own food.
What are herbivores? Organisms that eat only plants.
What are carnivores? Organisms that eat only animals.
What are omnivores? Organisms that eat both plants and animals.
What is a food chain? A simple feeding pathway.
What is a food web? A complex mix of different feeding pathways.
