Cell Parts Biology
Cell Parts
| name of part | descripition |
|---|---|
| Nucleus | Center of the cell has protons and neutrons it contains DNA; the control center of the cell. |
| Eukaryote | Organism whose cell contains nuclei (a nucleus) |
| Prokaryote | Organism that does not have a nucleus such as bacteria and archaea. |
| Cytoplasm | Protion outside the nucleus that fills the empty space in a cell. |
| Nuclear Envelope | layer of two membranes that surrounds the nucleus; it allows material to move in and out of the nucleus. |
| Chromosome | Threadlike structure in the nucleus that contains genetic information |
| Nucleolus | Where the assemby of ribosomes began |
| Ribosome | Makes proteins; made of RNA and proteins. |
| Rough/Smooth Endoplasmic Reticulum (ER) | Transports proteins around the cell. Rough ER has the ribosomes attached the smooth ER does not have them attached. |
| Golgi Apparatus | Modifies, sorts, and packs proteins from the ER. |
| Lysosome | Breaks down certain materials in the cell. |
| Vacuole | Stores materials like water, salts, proteins and carbohydrates. |
| Mitochondia | Converts energy into compounds. |
| Chloroplasts | Captures energy from the sunlight and converts it into chemical energy. |
| Cell Wall | Supporting layer around the cell membrane only in plant cells. |
| Cell Membrane | regulates what enters and leaves the cell. |
