What is an ectoderm? The outer layer (skin, feathers, nails)
What is an endoderm? The layer that forms the inner gut lining
What is a mesoderm? The layers that make the circulatory system, reproductive system and muscular system
What is a protosome? the mouth forms before the anus
What is a Deutersome? The anus forms before the mouth.
Name 10 important phyla of the Animal Kingdom. Porifera, Cnidaria, Platyhelminthes, Nematoda, Rotifera, Annelida, Mollusca, Anthropoda, Echinodermata and chordata.
What is Proifera and give some characteristics. The sponges- no mouth, irregular shape
What is Cnidaria and give some characteristics. The Jellyfish- stinging nematocysts, radial symmetry
What is Platyhelminthes and give some characteristics. Flatworms-flat body, mouth no anus
What is Nematoda and give some characteristics. Roundworms- tapered, cylindrical
What is Rotifera and give some characteristics. Wheel animals- microscopic, ringed with cilia
What is Annelida and give some characteristics. Segmented worms- segmented, mouth and anus
What is Mollusca and give some characteristics. Mollusks- muscular foot, shell present often
What is Arthropoda and give some characteristics. Arhtropods-segmented, external skeleton
What is Echinodermata and give some characteristics. Enchinoderms- pentamerous, radial symmetry
What is Chordata and give some characteristics. Chordates- have a notochord
State 8 general characteristics of vertebrates. vertebrae, endoskeleton, large brain, advanced nervous system, complex heart and circulatory system, special outer coating, one or two pairs appendages and a large coelom
State the 8 classes of vertebrates. Jawless fish, extinct jawed armoured fish, cartilaginous fish, bony fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals.
