Bio Revision For Test

QuestionAnswer
What are the seven Life processes? The seven life processes are Movement, Respiration, Sensitivity, Growth, Reproduction, Excretion and Nutrition. They can be easily memorized by a mnemonic which is: MRS GREN
In which tissue does photosynthesis take place in? Photosynthesis takes place in the Palisade tissue, which is made up of the palisade cells.
The vacuole in plant cells is filled with what substance? The vacuoles in plant cells are permanent and they contain "cell sap".
What does mitochondria do? The mitochondria is the powerhouse of a cell. Respiration takes place inside a mitochondrion to release energy from food molecules.
Main differences between plant and animal cells? 1. Plant cells have tough cellulose cell walls and animal cells do not. 2. Plant cells have chloroplasts and animal cells do not. 3. Plant cells have large permanent cell sap vacuoles and animal cells have temporary vacuoles which NEVER contain cell sap
A thin, protective layer around the cell which controls what goes into and out of the cell and keeps the contents of the cell from escaping is. . . Cell Membrane
A large organelle that controls what the cell does and contains the instruction for reproduction of cells is . . . Nucleus
A fluid-like, jelly around the nucleus and cell membrane. Chemical reactions also take place here, to keep the cell alive. Cytoplasm
This covers the thin cell membrane and is made up of tough cellulose which strengthens the cell. Cell wall
What are complex sugars? Complex sugars are those kind of sugars which are insoluble in water.
What is cellulose? Cellulose is a kind of complex sugar which is very tough.
These organelles are involved in making proteins. Ribosomes
What do electron microscopes use instead of light rays? Electron microscopes use a beam of electrons instead of light rays.
State one way in which the structure of Red blood cell helps it to carry out its function. Red blood cells have a dimple or depression in them for large surface area that contains more haemoglobin (red pigment) that can absorb more oxygen and transport it around the body.
What organelle does a red blood cell not have compared to a simple animal cell? It does not have a nucleus, but it has haemoglobin which reacts with oxygen and creates oxyhaemoglobin. It also transports it around the body.
State one way in which the structure of Plant cell help t to carry out its function? This cell has lots of chloroplasts to carry out photosynthesis. It contains a green substance called chlorophyll which helps by absorbing energy from the sunlight.
State one way in which the structure of the root hair cell help to carry out its function? The long thin root hair, have a large surface area for absorption of water and mineral ions.
What part do xylem cells NOT have? Xylem cells do NOT have end walls.

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
