What are the 4 macromolecules? Proteins, Carbohydrates, Lipids, Nucleic Acids
Enzymes belong to which group of macromolecules? Proteins
What do carbohydrates and lipids have in common? both store or provide energy.
Starch is broken down into what component? Mono-saccharides (simple sugars)
Which macromolecule is used for insulation? Lipids
What are the functions of carbohydrates? Structural support in cell walls, and used for energy
What are the functions of proteins? regulates enzymes, controls the rate of chemical reaction, makes up bones and muscle, etc.
What is an example of a protein? enzyme
What elements are found in organic molecules? oxygen, carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen
Define monomers small units that make up polymers
define polymers large units composed of monomers
What is the function of nucleic acids? store and pass on genetic information.
What are lipids composed of? glycerol and fatty acids
What is the function of lipids insulation/ store energy
Proteins are made of what building block? amino acids
What happens to an enzyme when the reaction is over? It can be reused
Describe the process of dehydration. When 2 monomers combine water is lost, and a polymer is formed.
