carbohydrates are also called sugars or saccharides

the most important monosaccharide on Earth is glucose
two monosaccharides can be bonded together to form a disaccharide
names of simple sugars usually end in -OSE
starch is found in plant cells
glycogen is found in animal cells
lipids include fats, cholesterol, waxes, and oils
nucleic acids include DNA and RNA
