BE Biology Cells

QuestionAnswer
Cell The basic unit of life.
Atom The smallest amount of any element.
Element The basic materials that make up the Earth.
Compound Light Microscope A microscope that uses a series of lenses to magnify objects in steps.
Cell Theory 1.) All organisms are composed of one or more cells. 2.) The cell is the basic unit of structure and organization of organisms. 3.) All cells come from preexisting cells.
Electron Microscope A microscope that uses a beam of electrons instead of light to magnify structures up to 500,000 times their size.
Organelles Small, specialized structures that are in all cells.
Prokaryotic Cells Cells that do not have membrane-bound organelles. (Pro = Before)
Eukaryotic Cells Cells that do have membrane-bound organelles. (Eu = True)
Nucleus The central membrane-bound organelle that manages or controls cellular functions.
Specialization Division of labor, or dividing of the work.
Interdependence When you forget and/or don't know how to do everything. Depending on someone else to do the work.
