QuestionAnswer
Totipotent contains all of the genetic material of a mature organism and may be regenerated into a complete organsim
Clones Contain the same genetic pattern as their parent cell
Axenic "not foreign" No foreign, non-plant cells in the culture
Callus A mass of undifferentiated tissue. Produced at the site of a wound in whole plants
Callus initiation medium contains a balance of hormones auxin and cytokinin to initiate cell division
Shoot development medium auxin to cytokinin ratio is reduced to develop shoots
Rooting medium high auxin content
Vegetative propagation the production of clones of the parent plant
Vascular Cambium The thin layer of cells between the xylem and phloem, will produce callus quickly
Autoclave uses high pressure steam to sterilize lab materials
Nodes The point on a stem where a leaf is attached
Internodes The part of a plant stem between 2 nodes.
Adventitious meristems areas of cell division in unusual positions
Explant The tissue fragment from which you start
