chloroplast organelle that uses light energy to make food from water and carbon dioxide
chromosome structure made of long chains of DNA
cilia short, hairlike appendages
cytoplasm a thick fluid on the inside of a cell, made mostly of water
cytoskeleton a network of fibers inside a cell that functions during muscle contraction, cell division, cell movement, and maintenance of cell shape
eukaryotic cell a cell with a nucleus and other organelles
mitochondrion organelle that transforms the usable energy in food molecules
nucleus an organelle that contains the genetic material; often called the control center of the cell
organelle compartment in the cytoplasm that has a specific function
prokaryotic cell a cell without a nucleus and other organelles
ribosome a small structure without a membrane, that builds proteins
