How do good readers read aloud with intonation? Good readers vary the pitch of their voice when reading aloud (so they don't sound like robots)!
What is the definition of compare? Compare means to find ways that two or more things are similar.
What is the definition of contrast? Contrast means to find ways that two or more things are different.
How can we infer when reading? We can infer when reading by understanding information that is not written directly in the text.
Why do authors use idioms when writing? Authors use idioms (phrases whose meanings are different from the meanings of the actual words) when writing to make the text more realistic and lively.
Is the following phrase an example of an idiom? "it rained cats and dogs" Yes. Cats and dogs were not raining from the sky. The phrase means that it was raining heavily.
What does predict mean? Predict means to take your best educated guess in deciding what will happen next.
What are conjunctions? Conjunctions are two sentences joined by a comma AND a conjunction such as (and) (but) or (or).
What are complete subjects? Complete subjects are ALL the words telling whom or what a sentence is about.
What are complete predicates? Complete predicates are ALL the words telling what the subject is or does.
