| net primary productivity | the rate at which bio mass accumulates |
| consumer/heterotroph | organism that has to eat other organisms to get food, it cant make the food on its own |
| herbivore | organism that eats plants |
| carnivore | organism that eats animals |
| omnivore | organism that eats plants and animals |
| detritivore/ Scavenger | organism that eats dead animals |
| decomposer | organism that eats dead animals and causes decay in the dead animal |
| trophic level | the organism's position in the sequence of energy transfers |
| food chain | Simple model that shows the movement of matter and energy through an ecosystem |
| food web | a series of food chains that are all interconnected and show all of the possible feeding relationships at each trophic level in a community |
