Terms for chapter eighteen section two: Modern Biology

| Habitat | The place where an organism lives. |
| Biotic Factors | The living components of the environment. This includes all of the living things that affect the organism. |
| Abiotic Factors | The physical and chemical characteristics of the environment. |
| Tolerance Curve | A graph of performace versus values of an environmental variable. |
| Acclimation | When organisms can adjust their tolerance to abiotic factors. |
| Conformers | Organisms that do not regulate their internal conditions; they change as their external environment changes. |
| Regulators | Organisms that use energy to control some of their internal conditions. |
| Dormancy | A state of reduced activity. |
| Migration | To move to a more favorable habitat. |
| Niche | The specific role, or way of life of an organism within its environment. |
| Generalists | Species with broad niches; they can tolerate a range of conditions and use a variety of resources. |
| Specialists | Species that hve narrow niches. |
